Love compatibility: The secret
Some say that in relationships, opposites attract, but new research has found that that might not be the case.
According to an analysis of dating website eHarmony’s Compatibility Matching System, similarity is actually the key to a long-lasting relationship, even though people with opposite personalities may find themselves attracted to each other at first.
The study of couples looked at patterns that made their relationships successful and found that while opposites attract initially, ultimately they “attack” each other.
According to the study, opposites “only attract for a short time”, drawn at first to each other’s intriguing an exciting differences.
But ultimately, those differences come between them, leading to frustration and animosity.
A submissive person might be attracted to someone who is dominant, for instance, but “it could be better for two highly dominant people to be together,” says the study.
“While they may occasionally clash, they’ll do so as equals and ultimately the relationship will be healthier.”
Similarly, an introverted person may be drawn to an extrovert, because the extrovert’s confidence makes the beginning stages of a relationship less stressful for an introvert.
Nevertheless, the couple’s differing social patterns – like the fact the extroverts thrive in big groups, whereas introverts are content with smaller groups – are likely to eventually cause tension in the relationship.
Rather than pair up with someone with an opposite personality, singletons should seek out compatibility if they really want the relationship to endure.
Soldiers allegedly shaves man's hair because it was too bushy
Something happened recently in Warri and I'd be grateful if you can share it on your blog so that people can be more aware of the madness perpetuated by army officers who are supposed to be protecting the citizens of this great nation.
On Monday the 19th of May, 2014, my nephew was a lone passenger in a Keke (commercial tricycle) on his way back from work along PTI road, Effurun. The Keke was flagged down by some soldiers for no obvious reason. They told him to come down and kneel down which he did. Before he could grasp what was going on, they had started to shave off his hair with a pair of scissors, claiming that his hair was too bushy. Attached is a picture of what his hair looked like when he arrived home.
Can't a responsible young man move about freely in his country anymore or is this a further attempt to provoke youths to restiveness? Unfortunately, the soldiers, who had been terrorizing residents and passersby in that area the whole day, had no name tags on their uniforms. The army Toyota Hilux with registration number 148 is the only exhibit by which they can be traced.
Mobile phone industry
giants Apple and Google have agreed to dismiss lawsuits they had brought
against each other over technology patents.
In a joint statement, the companies said they would work together in “some areas of patent reform”.
But the deal did not include licensing their technology to each other.
Apple – which produces iPhones – and firms that make phones using Google’s Android software earlier filed dozens of lawsuits against one another.
Earlier this month, a jury in California ordered South Korea’s Samsung firm to pay Apple $119.6m (£71m) for for infringing two of its patents.
The court also ruled that Apple infringed Samsung’s patents and awarded $158,000 in damages.
Android software is now installed on some 80% of new phones sold every year.

The Lille shot-stopper is optimistic about the African champions' chances at this summer's tournament in Brazil
Nigeria goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama
is brimming with confidence ahead of this summer's World Cup and
believes Stephen Keshi's men have what it takes to reach the
semi-finals.The reigning African champions have never made it past the round of 16 on the four previous occasions that they qualified for the final, but the Lille goalkeeper has little doubt they can cause a surprise this time around.
"I think we are going to make big progress," Enyeama told the official Fifa website.
"We are focused on the World Cup, to make Africa the proudest continent.
"Ghana almost reached the semi-finals four years ago. We are going to achieve a better result and be the first African team to get to the semi-finals of the World Cup."
Nigeria will possibly meet France in the first round of the knockout stages, but the Lille goalkeeper is not thinking about taking on the country where he's been plying his trade since 2011.
"If we play against France, it will be interesting, but if we play against Switzerland, it will also be interesting. The important thing is to qualify.
"Playing France for a place in the last eight is not really what matters to me right now, I just want the team to make it to the second round.
"But maybe we will come out first, and then we will not have to play against France."
Nigeria meet Argentina, Bosnia & Herzegovina and Iran in the group stages.
The Brazil centre-back was once described as playing
like he was "controlled by a 10-year-old on Playstation", yet he is now
the world's most expensive defender
COMMENTblog's team
Late on Friday evening, Paris Saint-Germain announced an agreement with Chelsea to make David Luiz the world’s most expensive defender ever, with the transfer fee expected to come in at around €49.5 million.
By making the Brazilian the planet’s costliest player in his role, it will be another golden feather in the increasingly lavish hat worn by the French champions, who apparently remain oblivious to the Financial Fair Play sanctions levied upon them by Uefa only a week ago.
PSG’s ascent from Ligue 1 makeweights to European elite has been relatively rapid, with Laurent Blanc’s side having risen from a 13th-place finish in 2010 to competing in consecutive Champions League quarter-finals only four years later.
It is a climb greater in speed than that achieved by Manchester City, who still await an appearance at such a level, despite being bought by the Abu Dhabi United Group in 2007 – shortly after PSG had narrowly avoided an embarrassing relegation to France’s second flight. Other clubs who have received great injections of money, such as Anzhi, often have failed to make it so far, while it took Chelsea nine years of Roman Abramovich’s investments before they finally lifted the Champions League.
PSG’s quick climb to prominence has owed much to their savvy dealings in the transfer market, avoiding exactly the kind of pitfall that they seem to have made by signing Luiz – a defender more noted for his dashing forward runs that his capabilities around his own box.
Former sporting director Leonardo, who departed the club last August, was behind the key deals to build the Parisian outfit, luring Zlatan Ibrahimovic and the planet’s classiest defender in Thiago Silva, yet since he left PSG have appeared rather rudderless in the transfer market, with no heir ever appointed to his role as sporting director. Maligned as a coach he may have been, but the 1994 World Cup winner’s value behind the scenes has been made more apparent due to his absence.

While Luiz could be seen as an attractive addition for his buccaneering style of play, the context of his arrival at Parc des Princes is, frankly, bizarre.
A matter of two weeks ago, PSG were branded as FFP criminals and handed a €60 million fine from Uefa, a cut in their Champions League squad from 25 to 21 – a punishment problematic owing to their lack of homegrown players – and instructed to cut their wage bill.
Like an insolent teenager, however, the French champions have seemingly chosen to ignore Uefa’s stern threats of rebuke.
" When you have all the means at the disposal of PSG, it's embarrassing that you can't do what you want [because of FFP]," Blanc hit out two weeks ago when speaking to Telefoot in an interview in which he confirmed his interest in the Brazil defender, whose Portuguese passport means he will not take up a non-EU slot on PSG's roster.

A reported fee of €49.5m adds to the implausible nature of the transfer. Chelsea, who narrowly missed out of FFP sanctions themselves this season, will suddenly have greater freedom in the transfer market by offloading a bit-part player for a princely sum, yet the already-sanctioned French outfit appear intent on gilding lilies that could be happily left untouched.
And that is without even taking into account that Luiz is not a player worthy of becoming the game’s most expensive defender.
The nickname 'Sideshow Bob' may be drawn from a character from 'The Simpsons', yet it also fits the nature of the defender’s game perfectly. While he is capable of making dramatic offensive forays that catch the eye, his lack of defensive nous – surely the primary function of his game – is sorely lacking.
Gary Neville was quite correct when he said that Luiz plays as if "controlled by a 10-year-old in the crowd on a Playstation".
Perhaps if the Brazilian had been trained in France, thereby easing the strain over the stipulation of homegrown players in Europe, such a transfer might be more understandable. However, the early career of his player was forged in Brazil, who fails to check even this meagre box.
There is little about this incongruous deal that adds up – and the figures certainly don’t for a Parisian side with the FFP axe over their necks as Uefa tighten their grip over accounts of those playing on football’s greatest stage.
Chibok Girls: 500 local hunters ready to join search for the girls
TRADITIONAL hunters armed with homemade guns, poisoned spears and amulets have gathered in their hundreds, eager to use their skills and what they believe to be supernatural powers to help find the schoolgirls abducted by Boko Haram.
According
to Associated Press (AP), Some 500 hunters, some as young as 18 and
some in their 80s, said they had been selected by their peers for their
spiritual hunting skills and had been waiting for two weeks in
Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, to get backing from the military and
get moving.
With
cow horn trumpets echoing eerie war cries from the screaming and
chanting men who twirled knives and swords with dexterity, occasionally
stabbing and cutting themselves with no apparent harm, the hunters
claimed their magic charms prevented any blood being drawn.
They
also trust amulets of herbs and other substances wrapped in leather
pouches as well as cowrie shells, animal teeth and leather bracelets to
protect them from bullets.
A
spokesman for the hunters, Sarkin Baka, stopped short of actually
criticising the military, adding that “we’re not saying we are better
than the soldiers, but we know the bush better than them.”
Military
spokesman did not immediately respond to an emailed question from AP on
whether it would take advantage of the hunters’ local knowledge.
The
hunters said they were reaching the end of their patience, adding that
“we are seasoned hunters, the bush is our culture and we have the powers
that defy guns and knives; we are real men of courage, we trust in
Allah for protection, but we are not afraid of Boko Haram.”
One
of them, Baban Kano, said “if government is ready to support us, then
we can bring back the girls. But if they are not, they should tell us,
so that we can disband and return to our homes and family.”
CHIBOK GIRLS: Actress Anne Hathaway leads protest in LA
Actress Anne Hathaway leads protest in LA
Oscar nominated actress Anne Hathaway yesterday Thursday May 8th took to the streets of Los Angeles to raise awareness for the Bring Back Our Girls cause. She was joined by her husband Adam Shulman and a few others. During the protest, Anne grabbed a megaphone and said…
“These Nigerian girls are part of the 5% who are able to seek an education, they were taken from their beds in the middle of the night by cowards, cowards who tell them that girls do not deserve an education. Do we agree with these cowards?” she asked the crowd, then yelled, “What do you want?” the crowd replied “Our girls!”
My goals will lift Nigeria at the World Cup - Emenike
The Turkish league winner and Afcon 2013 top scorer
has vowed to score goals to help the Super Eagles prove they are the
continent's reigning champions in Brazil
Fenerbache striker Emmanuel Emenike has promised to score goals as much as necessary to aid Nigeria to success at the World Cup in Brazil. Emenike has enjoyed his best-ever season at the heart of Fenerbahce’s attack in 2013-14, leading the club to their 19th league title with 12 league goals and nine assists in 29 matches.
The bulky attacker declined setting any goal target for himself as against seeking for individual glory.
"Individually, I have nothing to prove and I just hope to prove it well," Emenike told Africanfootball.com.
"I know the duty of a striker is to score goals at every tournament, I am aware of that and I am preparing to be at the right time to score the much-needed goals to help my nation do well, but I have no World Cup goals' target.
“Nigeria's success is my target at the World Cup," he said.
The Super Eagles will prove their African title feat was no fluke and qualification no joke to the World Cup in Brazil.
The 27-year-old said that Stephen Keshi's lads will bring Africa joy in South America.
"I believe we will make Nigerians and the entire continent of Africa proud in Brazil," he said

Brazil 2014 is my last chance; says Rooney.
The England talisman says that he is "fully fit" for
the World Cup in Brazil and hopes to show what he can do, having
struggled to make an impact in previous tournaments
Wayne Rooney is determined to deliver at this summer's World Cup and admits that it could be his last chance to shine on international football's grandest stage. The Manchester United and England frontman has been to two previous World Cups, in 2006 and 2010, though faced injury problems in the build-up to both tournaments and failed to score in both Germany and South Africa.
Having struggled to make an impact previously, the 28-year-old believes that the tournament in Brazil could be the opportune moment to prove his worth and is targeting an unlikely triumph.
"Obviously I've been here before and I've said what I can deliver and do and it hasn't happened," Rooney told reporters.

|
"So I believe this is really the last big one I feel that I can get the best out of me. I feel ready and fresh and as good as I can do going into this tournament.
"I believe this is the one that I have to show what I can do and I believe I'm in the best possible condition to do that. I'm ready for it, I'm excited for it and there'll be no excuses this time.
"I believe we can go far – our aim is to win the tournament. That's what we're preparing for and that's what we're hoping for - and, with a little bit of luck, we could do it."
Rooney missed the end of the Premier League season with United through injury and was even forced to bring fitness trainers on holiday with him but insists that he is now fully fit and ready for the World Cup.
"I feel good. I'm fully fit and took part in the full session on Monday," he continued. "I have done on Tuesday and Wednesday as well so I feel good and ready to do everything.
"Obviously I missed the last few games of the season and I wanted to make sure that I was ready and available to train when the team met up.
"That was the reason behind it [bringing fitness trainers on holiday] and it certainly helped me get up to speed with it and to be able to join in with the team on the first day."
