Adesina has been elected the new president of the African Development
Bank (AfDB).
He was elected at the AfDB summit presently ongoing in Abidjan, the capital of Ivory Coast.Report from Reuters said that Adesina, who contested along with seven other prominent Africans, was announced winner by the AfDB on its Twitter account.
Adesina will take over from outgoing bank president, Mr Donald Kaberuka on September 1, 2015, to become the AfDB’s eighth president.
Former minster of finance, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, also confirmed result of the elections on her personal twitter handle @NOIweala.
Okonjo-Iweala hailed Adesina, saying he is great and labelling his campaign as strong and great.
Speaking on his election, Adesina tweeted: “I am honoured and humbled by the support I have received and the confidence placed in me. Our best days are ahead.”
He also said that as President, he would not let Africans down.
