Audu’s death:Constitutional crisis imminent

The sudden death of Prince Abubakar Audu, the APC Gubernatorial candidate in Kogi State may actually have led to a constitutional crisis as no one knows what will be the next line of action concerning who will be the next Governor of the state.
In an interview with Mr. Olisa Agbakoba, SAN in his view the death of Prince Audu means the election has been invalidated and another election has to be conducted because a party has to field both a Gubernatorial candidate and a running mate.
Agbakoba noted that Amaechi and Bonnie Haruna were alive when the Supreme Court  took its decision in the case of Rivers and Adamawa,  but in this case, the leading candidate for the party is dead.
He noted that the Nigerian constitution at the moment did not make provision for this kind of situation and so it is a very knotty issue.
